Neuroethics: Ethical Perspectives from Plural Knowledges and the Neurosciences. Alternatives to Chaos brings together thirteen chapters by researchers linked to the doctoral program in social ethics at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México and collaborators. This collective work examines the moral dilemmas arising from advances in the neurosciences, neurotechnologies, and artificial intelligence. Against the dominance of reductionist and Western frameworks, it proposes a pluri-epistemic and intercultural neuroethics that places scientific knowledge in dialogue with Indigenous, community-based, ancestral, and artistic knowledges.
Organized around three axes —moral reflections on the neurosciences, the social impacts of the neurosciences, and pluri-epistemic dialogue— the book addresses mental privacy, neurorights, critical consciousness, neuromarketing and food consumption, animal ethics, empathy in the digital age, and theatre as a moral laboratory. It offers a critical framework for thinking about cognitive justice, bioethics, and humanistic education amid contemporary technoscientific challenges. Intended for researchers, teachers, and graduate students in ethics, philosophy, bioethics, neuroscience, and the social sciences.
